SALARY RANGE: $41,485.00 - $45,700.00 ANNUALLY
BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
ELIGIBILITY
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
EDUCATION ACCREDITATION
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
CLASS DEFINITION
A Painter II performs complex painting work including the mixing of colors to specifications or matching paint to existing surfaces. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed indoors and outdoors where incumbents are exposed to inclement weather and heights from ladders and scaffolding. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED certificate.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have three years of experience in painting work.
EXPERIENCE: Have three years of experience in painting work.
OR
EQUIVALENCY NOTES: Have Six months of additional experience in painting work may substituted for each year of the high school or GED requirement. Completion of one year of the required coursework in a painting curriculum in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management may be required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques and equipment of the painting trade.
- Knowledge of the characteristics of common types of paints and finishes.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices.
- Ability to mix paints and prepare surfaces for painting.
- Ability to match paint existing surfaces or to color chip.
- Ability to erect scaffolding.
- Ability to train new employees.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
