BACKGROUND CHECK

PROBATION

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) seeks a Clinical Health Director. Founded in 1793, BCHD is the oldest health department in the country, with over 800 employees and an annual budget of $208 million, that aims to protect health, eliminate disparities, and ensure the well-being of every resident of Baltimore through education, advocacy, and direct service delivery. BCHD's wide-ranging responsibilities include maternal and child health, youth wellness, school health, senior services, animal control, restaurant inspections, violence prevention, emergency preparedness, STI/HIV treatment, and acute and chronic disease prevention.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides consultation to the School Health Services Coordinator in the provision of health services to nearly 76,000 students enrolled in nearly close to 150 Baltimore City public schools.
- Directs, plans and coordinates, and evaluates the health care delivered to students in School Based Health Centers.
- Provides clinical services as needed for School Based Health Centers.
- Reviews, studies and updates knowledge on developments and trends in medicine and community health.
- Formulates policies, treatment protocols, and standards of care based on review of research and current practice recommendations from professional organizations and government agencies.
- Advises the Health commissioner and Chief Medical Officer on issues related to school health clinical services and pediatric/adolescent health.
- Data review and analysis.
- Assists with development, implementation and monitoring of the clinical components of the Department-Wide Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in School Based Health Centers.
- Evaluates the performance of clinical health care staff.
- Serves as a Tier I member of the emergency response team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have two years of experience as a licensed physician including one year in community health work or in public health.
OR
NOTES(EQUIVALENCIES): A master’s degree in public health from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Possession of a Nurse Practitioner Licensure from the State of Maryland and possession of a master’s degree in nursing or nursing doctorate from an accredited university and three years of experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner including one year in community health work or in public health.
