BACKGROUND CHECK

PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
ELIGIBILITY
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
EDUCATION ACCREDITATION
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
CLASS DEFINITION
An Architect Supervisor-Licensed directs and coordinates the work of designing, planning, reviewing and modifying architectural plans and specifications for the alteration and erection of City-owned buildings and structures. Work of this class involves supervising architects, engineers and drafting personnel.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office setting where few uncomfortable working conditions are encountered. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE: Have five years of experience in architectural design or architectural engineering work.
OR
EQUIVALENCY NOTES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have current license to practice architecture by the Maryland Board of Architects is required.

- Knowledge of construction materials, their properties, availability, and costs.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and local building and construction codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of comprehensive facilities planning and space management, site analysis, fiscal analysis,
- cost estimating and scheduling.
- Skill in negotiating and developing contract agreements/amendments for facility design.
- Skill in architectural and construction problem solving techniques.
- Skill in analyzing complex architectural design requirements and developing design programs
- incorporating objective, usage, occupancy requirements and building character.
- Skill in communicating effectively, orally and in writing with professional, technical and administrative
- personnel.
- Ability to oversee and coordinate the work of different disciplines working towards implementation of the same design and construction plans.
- Ability to prepare and review cost estimates and project timeframes for development and implementation of architectural design program and construction implementation.
- Ability to evaluate consultant’s work for conformity with specifications and regulatory codes and standards.
- Ability to negotiate the cost of architectural consultant contracts and contract amendments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, Federal, State and local employees and subordinates.
- Ability to represent agencies at zoning hearings, explaining the implications of architectural plans on
- zoning decisions.
