Chief of Staff

SALARY RANGE: $74,803-$119,684

HOURS: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with a hybrid office format.

Must be flexible and available for evening and weekend engagements.

BACKGROUND CHECK

Summary Of Position

The Office of Baltimore City Councilwoman Danielle McCray (D-District 2) is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional for its Chief of Staff position. The Chief of Staff reports to the Councilwoman and will possess strong leadership and problem-solving skills to assist with the daily operation of the office, advance the overall legislative, communication, and constituent service strategy, and oversee the administrative functions of the office.

Essential Functions

  • Manage and support team members and provide assistance with development and coaching.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through various means (e.g., attending seminars and conferences, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional organizations).
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with a broad spectrum of private and public entities such as City agencies and departments, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend various City Council, legislative, and community-at-large engagements.
  • Manage day-to-day office operations, including the constituent services system, efficiently and effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Proficient knowledge of the inner workings of local government and public administrations; high[1]level understanding of the complexities and unpredictability of day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to proactively identify inefficiencies and problem areas and recommend appropriate solutions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to present daily briefings, reports, and other recommendations to the Councilwoman and team members.
  • Ability to supervise team members; provide optimal plans to achieve short- and long-term tasks; provide guidance and support to ensure team members are working efficiently with the necessary tools.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and listen in various spaces to ensure transparency and understanding amongst all parties; proficient in oral and written communications; strong analytical skills; proficient in social media, content creation, and driving user engagement. About The City Council

The City Council is the City's legislative body, with the power to enact all ordinances and resolutions. City Council members are elected from fourteen districts, and the President is elected at large, by all voters of the City. The fifteen City Council members, along with the Mayor, act only by ordinance, resolution, or motion. They adopt and may alter the annual budget and confirm the Mayor's appointments. The City Council is responsible for the appropriation and issuance of bonds. The City Council determines its own rules of procedure, and its meetings are open to the public. City Council members are elected every four years. They are elected to geographic districts of roughly the same proportion of population.
