SALARY RANGE: $57,396.00 - $69,757.00 ANNUALLY

BACKGROUND CHECK

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

PROBATION

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.

ELIGIBILITY

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

Class Description

An Event Specialist creates, plans, organizes and schedules a variety of small- and large-scale events for the Department of Recreation and Parks. Work of this class may involve supervising part-time personnel.

Incumbents receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; which does include evening and weekend hours. Work is performed in an office and outside where normal environmental conditions are encountered. Work requires some physical exertion.

SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have four (4) years of experience in professional planning, organizing and evaluating events.

OR

EQUIVALENCY (NOTES): Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:

Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or equivalent and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and best practices of project development, management and successful event production.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of promoting and evaluating the effectiveness of events.
  • Knowledge of time management.
  • Knowledge of data analytics.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and details simultaneously.
  • Ability to plan and implement events with little supervision.
  • Ability to manage logistics, equipment needs, scheduling and attendee communications.
  • Ability to organize large groups of people.
  • Ability to recruit, train and assign and review the work of others.
  • Ability to draft, review, and negotiate contracts with vendors.
  • Ability to create long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to develop and maintain financial records.
  • Familiarity with event management software and tools.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Applicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show that they meet the minimum qualifications for this recruitment. Successful applicants will be placed on the employment certified eligible list for at least six months.

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.
