SALARY RANGE: $70,338.00 - $112,807.00 ANNUALLY

BACKGROUND CHECK

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

PROBATION

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.

ELIGIBILITY

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

CLASS DEFINITION

A Fuel Systems Specialist monitors and oversees the City’s above-ground and underground fuel, heating oil and waste oil tanks to ensure compliance with State and Federal environmental regulations. Work of this class involves supervising fueling site personnel.

Incumbents in this class receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional work week subject to 24-hour callback in case of emergencies. Works of this class is performed in an office and at fuel storage sites where there maybe exposure to liquid and gaseous petroleum products. Work requires occasional moderate physical exertion in standing, bending and lifting while conducting field analysis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, biological, environmental or physical science.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have two years of experience working with computerized fuel storage and dispensing systems.

OR

NOTES (EQUIVALENCIES): Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management may be required.

Knowledges, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of automated and computerized fuel storage and dispensing systems.
  • Knowledge of Federal EPA and Maryland State MDE and local rules and regulations concerning the storage of fuel.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, policies and equipment for fuel systems testing.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ability to evaluate, recommend improvements and streamline the operation of a fuel storage and dispensing system to provide quality service while meeting the federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ability to analyze and assemble information for and prepare reports.
  • Ability to make clear and concise presentations before groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City agency managers and other personnel.
  • Supervisory ability.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
