$88,223.00 - $136,946.00 ANNUALLY

BACKGROUND CHECK

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

PROBATION

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.

ELIGIBILITY

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

Class Description

A WasteWater Plant Operations Supervisor oversees and coordinates the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and participates in the overall planning and direction of plant activities. Work of this class involves directing the activities of wastewater operations technician and office support work units.

Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, but are subject to 24-hour call. Work is performed primarily in an office where there are few uncomfortable working conditions; however, there may be occasional exposure to toxic chemicals, pathogenic bacteria and noxious odors when in the plant. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have an associate degree from an accredited college or university.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have four years of experience in the operation of a waste water treatment plant including one year of performing such supervisory responsibilities as disciplining, evaluating the performance of, and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of other supervisors.

OR

EQUIVALENCY NOTES: Have one year of additional experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant may be substituted for each year of the college requirement. Non-supervisory experience or education may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Knowledge of the theories of wastewater treatment processes and laboratory control tests.
  • Knowledge of plant safety procedures.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of a large work force.
  • Ability implement procedures for complex operating problems.
  • Ability to resolve union grievances.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
