EDUCATION ACCREDITATION
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
Class Description
A Utility Meter Technician II DPW performs a variety of routine manual labor regarding water distribution activities. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; overtime may be required in emergencies. This is a high volume, production work environment. Work is performed outdoors where incumbents are regularly exposed to extremes of weather, dust, dirt, dogs and vermin and may be exposed to irate or hostile citizens. Work requires working in confined spaces, periods of prolonged walking and standing and repetitive bending and stooping to loosen and lift water meter vaults.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

EXPERIENCE: Have completed one year as an Utility Meter Technician I or have two years of relevant experience.
OR
EQUIVALENCY NOTES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

- Knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of water meters and associated equipment.
- Knowledge of industry safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills necessary to operate handheld and or mobile devices.
- Knowledge of meter reading and meter register dials.
- Knowledge of the meter reading schedule and routes
- Knowledge of the metering equipment and Fixed Network components.
- Knowledge of meter hardware functionality.
- Ability to read schedules, routes, street maps, names and addresses and to locate addresses in assigned geographic area.
- Ability to learn meter operation procedures.
- Ability to complete forms and reports.
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations.
- Ability to follow directives and instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with consumers and others.
- Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive bending and stooping.
