Essential Functions

- Plan, organize and conduct a program of activities at a park or multipurpose facility.
- Supervise recreation program participants
- Receive payments and maintain attendance and registration logs for classes and programs.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
- Exercise correct program safety practices.
- Open and secure facility and monitor facility while in use.
- Light cleaning of facilities.
- Promotes a positive recreation environment and good personal behavior.
- Assures consistent enforcement of rules and policies.
- Prioritizes and assigns tasks; assures that all safety rules and regulations are observed.
- Reports complaints, special requests, safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities, and resolves issues within scope of authority.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Banning and the constituent population by providing excellent customer service.
- Promotes the City goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records and City information.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Practices and techniques to achieve favorable public relations and appearance that projects a positive image.
- First aid methods and procedures.
- Practices and techniques to achieve group cooperation in recreation programs and light custodial maintenance techniques.

- Prepare reports and records;

- Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of standard and specialized software.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent or currently a high school student if age 16-17.
- Volunteer or paid work experience with children and/or teens is desirable.
- Ability to read and write at a level necessary for acceptable job performance, including the ability to interpret written instructions and to perform basic arithmetic.
- Must possess standard CPR/First Aid certification by time of appointment.
- May require some weekend, holiday and evening work assignments.
- Knowledge of sports - participation, coaching, and/or officiating

Work is primarily performed in which is busy, oriented to public service and subject to occasional work interruptions. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud. Occasional attendance at meetings before or after regular work hours is required.
Work Schedule
For Summer Season Applicants:
Candidates must be available to work the summer months (May – August) and in-service training (April and May) prior to the summer months. This position, depending on assignment, requires a variable work schedule, averaging 30 hours per week. The pool is open seven (7) days a week and candidates must be available to work all assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
For all Applicants:
Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours.
