General Purpose
To oversee the staff, daily pool operations, and programs including filling the role of responsible supervisor while also providing a safe and enjoyable leisure experience for patrons at the swimming pool.
HOURS :
Some flexible prep hours in the weeks preceding and following the summer season for scheduling, ordering inventory, evaluating employees, submitting reports, etc. Weekday, night and weekend hours required during the summer. Generally up to 40 hours per week in summer months (June-August) with additional flexible hours possible before and after the swim season. Training available. Flexible hours in a fun team environment.
PAY :
This is a limited term / seasonal position working fewer than 1040 hours per year. Wages are $18-$20per hour with no benefits available.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Supervise the pool physical plant and all related facilities including mechanical systems, chemical systems, the pool building, and pool grounds.
Assist in recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of pool staff.
Directly schedule, supervise, and evaluate all Water Safety Instructors.
Coordinate all communications between the WSI staff and the American Red Cross Badger Chapter to ensure proper paperwork documentation.
Walk the deck as often as practical to interact with and observe the WSI staff and swim lesson participants during swim lessons.
Walk the deck as often as practical during Open Swim sessions to interact with the guard staff and communicate with pool patrons.
Work a revolving schedule of morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, and occasional split shifts as needed.
Plan and organize a comprehensive program of activities for the pool and schedule the use of the pool for Open Swim, Swim Lessons, Rentals, and the Riptide Swim Team.
Develop, schedule, and conduct in-service training programs for pool staff.
Maintain staff awareness of the Emergency Actions Plans and safety procedures in general.
Handle all grievances of staff members and report the situation and the positive resolution of the conflict to the Recreation / Aquatics Coordinator.
Evaluate staff performance and use corrective coaching techniques as needed throughout the course of the summer.
Evaluations and a hire-no hire recommendation on each staff member for the following summer are given to the Recreation / Aquatics Coordinator.
Assist in the preparation, dissemination, and enforcement of pool rules and regulations.
Handle all grievances and / or discipline cases involving pool patrons when on duty.
Keep an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and supplies.
Assist in the seasonal opening and closing procedures of the pool.
Ensure the maximum safety of pool patrons and make certain that the pool and the facility overall are clean and well maintained at all times.
Prepare the weekly staff work schedule and maintain a cumulative staff hours log on site.
Work to promote and maintain a positive, cooperative, and healthy work atmosphere and maintain effective and professional communication with all staff members at all times.
Assign Lifeguard rotations.
Keep daily pool records required by the State including, but not limited to :
- Employee Hours
- Water and Air Temperature
- Chlorine and pH readings
- Number of Pool Patrons including spectators.
Keep daily employee and patron attendance records
Keep track of daily receipts and make the daily deposits.
Keep thorough incident / accident reports on approved City forms.
Prepare staff payroll.
Inspect safety and rescue equipment, including first aid supplies, on a regular basis and report purchasing / replacement needs.
Report any equipment which needs repair or replacement.
Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must be able to work alone under little direct supervision
Must have prior experience supervising others
Must have experience working with the public
Qualifications
Preference given to those who possess American Red Cross 1st Aid / CPR certifications.
Preference given to those with prior lifeguard experience
Preference given to those who possess current WSI certification
Certifications are not required, but helpful. Candidate must be mature and organized and ready for a fun summer!
