The City of Bartow is looking for a Recreation Program Supervisor for our Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts Department. The work is performed under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Manager. Supervision is exercised over the center and all program personnel. Performs duties necessary to supervise and manage daily operations by overseeing the development, organization, directing, and implementation of City-wide Recreation, Cultural Arts, Community Outreach, and Athletic programming at multiple Recreation Centers and related facilities. Responsible for managing the planning and coordinating of Special Events and yearly schedules, registering participants for programs and activities, processing fees, record keeping, purchasing supplies and equipment, and communicating with the Facilities Supervisor on the cleaning and maintaining of facilities.
This is a full-time position and the starting pay is $24.917. In addition to the hourly pay, the City provides health insurance (2 plans paid 100% for the employee!), Life insurance ($10,000 after 6 months), Short-term disability insurance (after 13 months of employment), and a Pension with only 4% employee contribution and six (6) year vesting. There is also a $3,000 healthcare stipend that the city awards you every October! In addition to all of that, you will receive 11 holidays, 12 sick days, 10 vacation days, 2 personal days.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises and is responsible for all recreation programs, summer programs, and special events, coordinates with community and volunteers for programs, activities, and special events.
- Plans, organizes, and directs a variety of recreation, cultural arts, community outreach, and athletic programs at multiple recreation facilities. Supervises recreation center services, activities, staff, athletic officials, and independent contractors (instructors).
- Plans, organizes, and directs a large Summer Recreation program and other specialty camps, registering participants, securing field trips, daily activities, staff, and other related responsibilities pertaining to the summer program.
- Supervises participants utilizing recreation centers, grounds and facilities; enforces center policies; maintains order.
- Oversees and coordinates with the Parks & Recreation Administrative Assistant and Facilities Supervisor for the rental and use of multiple recreation centers; coordinates reservations, bookings, and staff coverage for building and areas.
- Supervises and manages the planning and coordinating of yearly schedules; oversees independent contract agreements for instructors.
- Oversees professionalism and appearance of facilities, Works with Facilities Supervisor regarding the maintenance of facilities.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate files and records; maintains participation records and reports; monitors multiple budgets; prepares various reports.
- Responsible for ensuring the proper selection, retention, and training of staff; Supervises staff and conducts disciplinary processes and procedures with established guidelines and policies.
- May be required to work alternate hours, a necessary for the efficient operation of all programs.
- Responsible for hiring, scheduling, and paying athletic officials; may be required to officiate during athletics.

Required Education, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years’ experience in the supervision of recreation centers, programs, and staff; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies necessary for the position.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Master’s Degree in Parks and/or Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Marketing, Public Administration, or related may substitute for 2 years of experience. Government experience is preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required, and a Commercial Driver’s License Class B
