The City of Bartow is looking for a Recreation Specialist for our Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts Department. The Recreation Specialist will perform intermediate paraprofessional work assisting customers with their fitness program under regular supervision. This is a full-time position and the starting pay is $13.445. In addition to the hourly pay, the City provides health insurance (2 plans paid 100% for the employee!), Life insurance ($10,000 after 6 months), Short-term disability insurance (after 13 months of employment), and a Pension with only 4% employee contribution and six (6) year vesting. In addition to all of that, you will receive 11 holidays, 12 sick days, 10 vacation days, 2 personal days.
- Organizes, implements, instructs, and supervises recreation programs, activities at recreational facilities.
- Provides general supervision of the recreation center; enforce rules and regulations; prepare class schedules.
- Plans and implements daily recreational activities for program participants of various ages.
- Handles member problems and questions.
- Prepares promotional material for advertising recreation activities or programs; contact community to create public awareness.
- Registers participants and collect fees for class registration and facility rentals.
- Cleans up all equipment and fitness center.
- Wipes each machine off continually throughout each shift
- Maintains and promotes a clean, uplifting environment for member to enjoy; ensure safety of facilities.
- Reports any maintenance problems.
- Performs related tasks as required

- General knowledge of the principles, rules, materials, and equipment required for a fitness program.
- Knowledge of first aid practices and techniques.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies necessary for the position
- Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of Florida.
- Possession of Fitness Instructor certificate.
- Preferred Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates
