What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Inspector position at City of Bastrop (TX)?

Under administrative direction of the Development Engineer, this position is responsible for performing inspection work related to site development of private development projects within the City of Bastrop or its jurisdictional boundaries.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Oversees the Inspection of all site development related activities for the Development Services Department.
- Leads the process from beginning through completion on the preliminary stages of construction for private work permitted by the City of Bastrop.
- Develops and ensures that City Construction Project protocols and codes are properly followed by all contractors and sub-contractors.
- Maintains and tracks individual project activities including coding, approving, and administering projects in the Development Services Department.
- Initiates plan amendments to approved site plans or development plans when appropriate.
- Compiles construction data and coordinates with all external and internal departments providing utility services to the site being inspected.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Other Duties:
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential. Leave scheduled should be managed so as to not interfere with ability to accomplish tasks, including special projects and assignments with deadlines.
- Maybe required to work hours outside of the assigned or on weekends as required.
Emergency Management:
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Construction management and sequencing of engineering, utilities, right of way, and construction activities.
- Professional service and construction contracts (i.e. architectural, engineering, highway, and building).
- City standards and specifications related to construction.
- City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
- Utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
- Project scheduling.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
- Identifying and resolving problems.
- Negotiating acceptable solutions.
- Formulating, analyzing, and interpreting construction progress.
Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- And, two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction or utility construction.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record to be maintained throughout employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in a standard office environment subject to sitting, standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time; and must be able to pull, push, lift, and carry items weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
- Field work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions to observe site conditions and construction.
- May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
Position will remain open until filled. Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing/physical, and criminal background investigation.
