What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at City of Battle Creek (MI)?
The City of Battle Creek is looking for individuals to drive various sized and weighted commercial vehicles on all State and local travel ways according to defined transit routes and schedules; related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under general supervision of the Transit Operations Supervisor. This is a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory, random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Federal and City regulations and policies.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, bending, reaching, squatting, and stooping. Position also requires hand dexterity (grasping, holding, keyboarding, repetitive movements), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, using the telephone, contact with government officials and the general public, working overtime, and working alone. Work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather); work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
- Transports passengers according to defined bus routes, established time schedules and local policies. Complies with local traffic regulations.
- Assists and interacts with passengers as necessary and regulates bus heating, lighting and ventilation for passenger comfort. Maintains good relationship with public.
- Performs light inspection of vehicle before operating.
- Reports delays or accidents in a timely manner.
- Collects and records cash and ticket fares with accuracy.
- Possesses and maintains thorough familiarity of local streets, principal locations, and all transit bus routes.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1-3 years previous heavy duty vehicle operation experience preferred.
- Valid Class B Commercial driver’s license with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to possess a DOT card upon hire.
- Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan.
- Ability to pass USDOT pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Must not have previously failed any USDOT drug and alcohol test.
