What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit Utility Worker position at City of Battle Creek (MI)?
Performs semi-skilled maintenance work for the Battle Creek Transit on coaches and facilities; maintains grounds and equipment around bus shelters and various Transit facilities; and performs related work as required. This position is a Department of Transportation Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory, random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Federal and City regulations and policies.
- Inspects physical facilities and coaches for such factors as cleanliness, safety, and appearance.
- Keeps interior floors, windows, and seats of coaches clean; keeps exterior of coaches clean.
- Fuels and services coaches (checks oil, water, and transmission fluid levels).
- Probe and change fare boxes.
- Performs grounds maintenance at various Transit facilities such as lawn mowing, snow removal, and pulling weeds.
- Maintains progress sheets and daily work orders.
- Prepares records and reports as required.
- Places bus stop signs and performs maintenance in and around bus shelters.
- Assists in various other maintenance tasks at Transit facilities.
- Operate buses of various sizes, a truck and/or light equipment.
- May purchase supplies and materials.
- Clean building facility's including but not limited to janitorial duties, painting, some building maintenance
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
- Ability to acquire a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake endorsement within 60 days.
- One (1) year of experience in responsible janitorial and/or maintenance/utility work.
- Considerable knowledge of janitorial/maintenance techniques and procedures preferred.
- Reasonable knowledge of safety standards and practices related to cleaning supplies.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to prepare/maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to perform simple plumbing tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relation-ships with the public and other employees.
- Skill in the use of basic hand tools, lawn care, cleaning, and snow removal equipment.
Working in wet surroundings, working at night, around loud noises, in low temperature and inclement weather, with poor ventilation, around dust and/or fumes, and working with cleaning solvents, gasoline, and fuel oil.
