Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for Division operations in the absence of the Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent; trains operators in the proper operation of Surface Water Treatment/Groundwater Treatment plant, pump station and well system; supervises and evaluates plant operators; conducts updates on regulations, safety, operating techniques, and testing; operates filter plant, pump station and well system as a relief operator as needed; prepares monthly work schedule for 24-hour operation of plant and pump station; conducts tours of plant for groups and individuals; orders water treatment chemicals and other supplies as needed; coordinates plant maintenance requirements with the maintenance foreman; respond to customer complaint calls; completes weekly field inspection reports; uses calculations to assist operators in determining and correctly setting chemical feed rates; ensures operators are correctly documenting/reporting data; organizes and maintains records; ensures operators adhere to division and city policies; uses and maintains analytical equipment; serve as relief operator; prepares reports for management and TCEQ; ensures proper operation and appearance of the public water system.
Other Job Functions: Performs other duties as required.
Working Conditions
Works indoors, outdoors, and in an open office environment. Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and gas vapor hazards; subject to being called out 24 hours a day. May be required to work weekends and during inclement weather or other types of emergencies.
Minimum Essential Qualifications
Knowledge: Knowledge of water treatment practices and applicable regulations; knowledge of the location of plant equipment and all other Water Production facilities; knowledge of safety procedures and equipment including the use of breathing equipment; knowledge of TCEQ drinking water rules and regulations
Skills/Abilities: Ability to write; speak, hear, deal with the public, read, make decisions; ability to supervise and manage; ability to perform physical and chemical tests on water samples; perform mathematical calculations using a calculator; use hand tools and perform minor maintenance on equipment; conduct technical and non-technical training sessions.
Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly sees and hears; frequently uses a calculator, drives, stands, writes by hand, operates a PC, enters data, answers a telephone, reads, reaches, operates a 2-way radio, sits and walks, runs, stoops, crouches, sorts, twists body, climbs, carries, holds and pulls objects weighing up to 70 lbs., squats, uses physical dexterity, uses measuring equipment; Non-essential: infrequently operates a camera, digs, types, drags and pushes objects weighing up to 100 lbs. and cleans.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; Class C or better Surface Water Operator's Certificate required; Class B or higher Surface Water Operator's Certification preferred; must have the ability to obtain Class B Certificate within one year of employment. Five years experience in local water plant operations and maintenance required.

Other: Must possess a valid Tx driver's license Class C with a good driving record. Applicant selected for hire shall be subject to drug/alcohol screen test.
