Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions: Installs, repairs and maintains communications equipment, sound systems, alarm systems, display systems, telephones and telephone systems and other related equipment; receives repair calls and recommends course of action to the Communications Manager. Installs telephone and data cabling as required; tests and troubleshoots telephone and data cabling as required; ensures that equipment is in compliance with federal regulations; performs frequent equipment tests as part of preventive maintenance; provides technical assistance and training to users of communication systems from all departments; performs related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Exposed to a confining work space, dirty environment, electrical hazards, extreme temperatures or weather conditions, and high and precarious work spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Responds to after hours call back for emergency conditions as necessary.
Minimum Essential Qualifications
Knowledge: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning of words and grammar; processes involved in upkeep of property and equipment to the optimum state of cleanliness, repair and efficiency; knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including a desire to help customers regardless of their circumstance; knowledge of materials, methods and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures and buildings; knowledge of proper techniques for installing, repairing, and modifying electrical systems.
Skills/Abilities: Attention to detail in dealing with numbers, words and ideas; ability to integrate new materials or information and their implications; ability to listen to what other people are saying and ask questions as appropriate; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; ability to obtain and appropriately use the equipment, facilities and materials used to do certain work; ability to actively look for ways to help people; ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to correctly follow a given rule or set of rules to arrange things or actions (sequencing); ability to use oral expression to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand; ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; ability to prioritize and select from multiple options activities to achieve a goal; ability to read and interpret documents; ability to work independently and without supervision; ability to make decisions directly affecting the safety of others.
Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears, carries, drives a vehicle, lifts up to 10 lbs., listens, reaches, sits, stands, talks and walks; frequently climbs, crawls, grasps, handles, feels, kneels, lifts up to 50 lbs., pushes, pulls and stoops; occasionally lifts up to 100 lbs.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or high school equivalency, plus some related college or vocational training; minimum of one year experience with communications equipment and systems.
Other
Must possess a valid Class C driver’s license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver’s License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation, drug/alcohol screen test and debt check for any monies owed the City of Beaumont.
