Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions: Photograph and process crime scenes and criminal instruments for fingerprints, biological fluid, and other evidence using powders, chemicals, adhesives, tapes, light sources, digital photography, swabs, and various other recovery methods; photographs physiological evidence at autopsies; collect, preserve, and maintain integrity of evidence in the field; properly package, store, and submit evidence to the Property and Evidence Unit and Regional Crime Lab following detailed procedures; processes articles brought to the station for identification purposes; maintains daily report of activities; fingerprints citizens, police, fire and liquor applicants; classifies and files fingerprint cards; presents testimony in court as expert witness for fingerprint identification and crime scene investigation; Provide routine maintenance and care for Crime Scene vehicles, photography equipment, and other electronic equipment related to job functions; use sophisticated chemical, physical, optical, and computerized techniques of scientific analysis in the performance of job duties.

Working Conditions
May be subject to risk of bodily harm during crime scene investigations; also subject to coming in contact with blood and other body fluids. Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; often exposed to chemical irritants, dirt, dust, fumes, and odors; frequently exposed to the sight of death and violent crime/accident scenes; subject to 24 hour call-out; must be available to work any shift.
Minimum Essential Qualifications
Knowledge: Knowledge of digital photography preferred.
Skills/Abilities: Ability to acquire knowledge and understanding of the F.B.I. fingerprint manual, Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), Texas Penal Code, police general orders, rules and regulations, and Texas Code of Criminal Procedures; ability to lift latent fingerprints; ability to classify finger print cards; ability to read and write; ability to make mathematical computations; ability to successfully complete highly technical training courses; ability to learn and retain knowledge related to various electronic equipment and computer programs related but not limited to: drones, laser mapping equipment, metal detectors, and fumigation chambers; ability to operate camera and run basic computer programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; vision must be correctable to 20/20; frequently sits, stands, walks, bends, drives vehicle, operates camera and computer, kneels, crouches, squats, stoops, climbs, and lifts and carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; infrequently pushes, pulls and drags objects weighing over 50 lbs.
