Essential Job Functions: Performs electrical maintenance, repair and construction work in the field of traffic control including, but not limited to, the installation of wiring for traffic signal devices; installation of signal poles and arms; installation of breaker boxes and risors (coordinating installation with Entergy); assists with the installation and maintenance of freeway lighting facilities; installs and connects street lights as needed; assists with the installation of underground conduit; prepares supplies and equipment for field installation; assist traffic signal technicians and electricians.

Must be able to work 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; may be subject to call-back(s), working extended hours and/or on weekends. Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather, on ladders and scaffolding at various heights, and in trenches and ditches; exposed to constant noise; exposed to electrical, mechanical shock, fumes/odor, dust/mites and chemical hazards.Other Job Functions: Performs other duties as required. Knowledge: Thorough knowledge in the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic control devices; knowledge of applicable safety regulations and procedures.
Skills/Abilities: Skilled in the use of tools and equipment required in the construction and maintenance of signal and electronic equipment; ability to work from plans and schematics; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, employees and the public; ability to effectively communicate orally; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to perform job assignments with limited supervision; ability to drive all vehicles assigned to the Transportation Division including pickups, pole cats, bucket trucks and dump trucks; ability to make mathematical calculations.
Physical Requirements: Constantly sees, hears and writes by hand; frequently drives a vehicle, stands, stoops, walks, bends, crouches, kneels, reaches, sits, squats, cleans, twists body, climbs, uses measuring equipment, uses physical dexterity, operates a two-way radio and requires stamina; infrequently pulls objects weighing up to 70 lbs., holds objects weighting up to 40 lbs., lifts, carries, pushes and drags objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent and minimum three (3) years working experience in the building maintenance/construction trade at a Journeyman level in the electrical/electronic field. Experience in the repair and maintenance of traffic signals preferred.

Must obtain IMSA work zone certification and IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Certification within three (3) years of hire date. Level II IMSA Certification desirable. Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid driver's license equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Must obtain a valid Texas Driver's License Class A or B/CDL within one (1) year from date of employment.
