Essential Job Functions: Installs, maintains, and repairs traffic controls, communication equipment, and all other support equipment; documents work performed; prepares and maintains various records and reports; assists in maintaining parts/supply inventory; trains less knowledgeable staff. Assist in the implementation of traffic control plans in work zones; performs other duties as required, including emergency preparation, response, and repair.

Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; may be exposed to dirt, dust, grime, noise, traffic, mechanical, electrical and gas vapor hazards and hazards of working around equipment and construction sites; works in trenches/ditches; works at heights up to 65 ft. out of aerial vehicles. Must be available for work Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., extended hours when necessary including during emergencies; subject to shift work; must be willing to work call back when assigned.
Knowledge: Extensive knowledge in the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic signal and communication equipment, specific knowledge of Naztec controllers, knowledge of applicable safety regulations and procedures. Applicants will be required to pass several exams including basic signal timing, traffic signal cabinet trouble shooting, and a controller programming test.
Skills/Abilities: Skilled in the use of tools and equipment required in the construction and maintenance of signal and electronic equipment; ability to work from plans and schematics; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, employees and the public; ability to effectively communicate orally; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to perform job assignments with limited supervision; ability to drive all vehicles assigned to the Transportation Division including pickups, pole cats, bucket trucks and dump trucks; ability to make mathematical calculations.
Physical Requirements: Constantly sees, hears and writes by hand; frequently drives a vehicle, stands, stoops, walks, bends, crouches, kneels, reaches, sits, squats, cleans, twists body, climbs, uses measuring equipment, uses physical dexterity, operates a two-way radio and requires stamina; infrequently pulls objects weighing up to 75 lbs., holds objects weighing up to 40 lbs., lifts, carries, pushes and drags objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent required; experience constructing, maintaining, and troubleshooting, traffic signals/cabinets; experience programming controllers; must have ability/experience to perform basic traffic signal timing; must have experience operating a bucket truck and setting up traffic control; must have knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid driver's license equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
