SUMMARY
Directs and coordinates daily activities of workers engaged in maintaining and repairing asphalt and concrete surfaces of municipal streets and right-of-way by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs and supervises workers engaged in the maintenance and structural repairs to the asphalt and concrete surfaces of streets and their curbs, gutters, driver approaches and sidewalks.
- Installation of guard rails and delineators along roadways for traffic safety.
- Assist with the removal of trees and debris from.
- Directs workers in pavement and sidewalk preparation/treatment for inclement weather.
- Performs equipment repairs and preventative maintenance for all assigned equipment.
- Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications, and standards.
- Interprets City policies to workers and enforces worker and job site safety regulations.
- Creates and receives work orders through the work order system. Enters completed data into the system to close the request in a timely manner.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Maintains time, materials, and maintenance records as required.
- Confers with Crew Chief’s and assists other municipal departments with regular activities or special community events.
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, loaders, dozers, trucks, and hand tools.
- Assists other divisions of the Public Works Department as needed, including standby and emergency call back.
- Will perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
- Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees in the particular area of responsibility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recommending employee rewards and discipline; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma / GED and three-years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special training or certification in concrete and asphalt application is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Political Pesticide Applicator License within one (1) year of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain a Work Zone Traffic Control Certification within one (1) year of hire.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
SPECIALIZED KSA’S
Working knowledge of municipal infrastructure and ability to read and interpret engineering plans and plats. Demonstrated ability to operate trenching and back fill equipment and to perform routine equipment maintenance. Must have or be able to complete a confined space training.
