What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Maintenance Worker - Streets position at CITY OF BEDFORD?
SUMMARY
Maintains and repairs municipal streets and right-of-way by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from Street Crew Chief, Equipment Operator, or Senior Maintenance Worker.
- Maintains and repairs asphalt and concrete surfaces of streets and their curbs, gutters, drive approaches and sidewalks.
- Installs and repairs guard rails and delineators along roadways for traffic safety.
- Assist with the removal of trees and debris from roadways.
- Completes pavement and sidewalk preparation/treatment for inclement weather.
- Operates equipment such as street saws, routers, air hammers, trucks, power saws, and hand tools.
- Cleans and maintains tools and equipment as required.
- Maintains safe work and traffic conditions throughout the street repair process and cleans work site before leaving or opening to traffic.
- Assists other divisions of the Public Works Department as needed, including standby and emergency call back.
- Will perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
- Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma / GED. Some related experience and/or training preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Texas Driver's License. Ability to obtain a Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License within one (1) year of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Work Zone Traffic Control certification within one (1) year of hire.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
SPECIALIZED KSA’S
Working knowledge of street, water, wastewater, and drainage maintenance procedures and equipment operating practices.
