CRIME VICTIM SPECIALIST’s role within the big picture of the City’s overall success:
Ensures the well-being of crime victims by providing on-scene crisis intervention, post-incident follow up, supporting victims through legal processes, managing the first responder wellness program, engaging in police department committees, and handling grant management responsibilities.
CRIME VICTIM SPECIALIST functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Victim Advocacy and Support:
- Conduct on-scene crisis intervention and post-incident assistance, ensuring immediate support for crime victims.
- Coordinate court appearances and provide ongoing liaison, assisting victims in navigating the criminal justice system.
- Facilitates emergency shelter and additional supports within immediate timeline of victimization to ensure safety.
- Information and Referral Services:
- Educate victims about their rights and available resources, informing them about the criminal justice process and support services.
- Assist in accessing support programs and resources, facilitating referrals to counseling, legal aid, and financial assistance.
- Grant Management and Reporting:
- Gather data for grant applications and compile quarterly reports, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
- Create and manage grant budget and financial reporting, overseeing expenses, salary, and benefits.
- Community Engagement and Awareness:
- Maintain community relationships and promote victim services, building connections and raising awareness about available support.
- Serve as a liaison between clients and criminal justice entities, facilitating effective communication.
- First Responder Wellness Program Development:
- Coordinate the development of the wellness program, working with law enforcement to understand needs and develop employee well-being initiatives.
- Gather data for wellness program grants, researching and applying for funding opportunities.
- Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Education: Bachelors Degree in a related field
Experience: 2 years of previous relevant work experience is required.
Supervisory: No previous supervisory experience is required.
Certifications/Licenses: Valid Texas Driver's License; Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred
Salary : $25 - $29
