Job Description

CEA Hourly Range $24.72 - $32.27

POSITION TITLE: Partskeeper II

REPORTS TO: Fleet Superintendent

SUPERVISES: N/A

Purpose Of Position

Responsible for assisting in the efficient operation of the parts

room, including delivery and picking up parts and maintaining records.

Essential Functions

Orders, receives and issues parts, equipment and safety items for departments throughout the City.

Schedules the delivery and picks up parts and equipment as necessary.

Utilizes a personal computer to input departmental records and reports, including labor hours, parts, materials and costs.

Obtains necessary information from vendors and manufacturers to coordinate the purchase and procurement of parts, supplies, and services, then relays that information to the supervisor.

Issue new employee assigned shop equipment and safety equipment.

Confers with department heads to determine their inventory and parts needs and ensures that equipment obtained is satisfactory.

Maintains computerized inventory and cost code on all parts and equipment.

Maintains familiarity with specialized equipment required by police and fire departments and keeping up to date on parts required.

Maintain inventory and storage of all parts and material in stock by utilizing computer software.

Maintain accountability for all parts and material in stock, including proper storage and issue.

Assist supervisor with all end of month reporting requirements.

Utilize specialized equipment to cut, assemble and crimp high pressure hydraulic hose with proper fitting and required length

Will be required to perform duties on an on-call basis as needed.

Operates light automotive equipment in conjunction with duties.

Operates a Forklift in the performance of job duties.

Operates standard office equipment in the performance of job duties, i.e. personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, etc.

Establishes and maintains positive public relations with the general public, vendors, co-workers, other governmental agencies and municipal officials.

Answers the telephone, takes messages, refers callers to appropriate sources for assistance, or provides information to callers according to departmental policies and procedures.

Performs accurate calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, using a calculator, ten-key adding machine or manually.

Maintain and refill flammable bulk fluid storage inventory levels.

Keep the parts inventory room and bulk storage room clean and well organized.

Attendance at the assigned work location is an essential function.

Marginal Functions

Assist mechanics with minor repairs on vehicles.

Perform related duties as assigned, or as situation dictates.

Essential Knowledge, Experience And Ability

Thorough knowledge of and ability to learn a wide variety of both routine and specialized types of parts, equipment, tools, and machinery.

Thorough knowledge of and ability to perform input and retrieval functions utilizing a personal computer, appropriate software, and databases.

Knowledge of and ability to schedule deliveries and take inventory.

Knowledge of and ability to use proper telephone etiquette.

Knowledge of and ability to understand MSDS sheets, parts books and manuals.

Knowledge of and ability to order and purchase parts and equipment in a cost-efficient manner.

Thorough knowledge of and ability to analyze and interpret reports, manufacturer catalogs and equipment specifications.

Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.

Knowledge of and ability to utilize efficiently inventory, stock and issuance procedures.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public,

co-workers, vendors, manufacturers, and supervisors.

Ability to understand and comprehend both written and oral instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in English.

Ability to work independently, utilizing sound judgment and discretion in all phases of work.

Ability to learn and research specialized equipment required by police and fire departments.

Ability to safely operate light automotive equipment.

Ability to operate standard office equipment, i.e. personal computer, telephone, fax machine,

copier, calculator, etc.

Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using a calculator, ten-key adding machine or manually.

Essential Education, Certification And/Or Licenses

  • years of Parts Management experience preferred.

Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator license.

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Must obtain National Safety Council Forklift Training Certification within (6) months of hire and obtain throughout employment.

Essential Physical Demands And Typical Working Conditions

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work duties require a considerable amount of physical activity including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, and climbing. Duties also require the ability to tolerate an indoor work environment that includes contact with dirt, chemicals, dust, noise and inclement weather conditions. An incumbent must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and possess the coordination and manual dexterity necessary to handle equipment and parts required by departments throughout the City. The incumbent must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle and the ability to climb in and out of motor vehicles. The incumbent must also be able to talk, hear and transport themselves to and from various locations within the building. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various other pieces of equipment. While performing the duties, the incumbent is required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects or controls and to reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is usually quiet or moderate. Work requires interaction with the general public and may be stressful when dealing with irate people and/or meeting deadlines.
