Seeking outgoing and upbeat staff to work with adults with physical disabilities.
Assess, plan, evaluate, and provide safe recreation therapy for participants in Highland’s adaptive exercise class. This includes designing individual fitness routines, establishing goals, and engaging with the participants. We have designed this class for adults seeking to maintain motor strength, continue fitness after physical therapy, regain functionality, improve range of motion, or simply get out of the house and socialize.
Class will be held from 9am–1:30pm during the week. This job provides staff with truly fulfilling experience while having fun.

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include any combination of the following tasks:
- Facilitate all aspects of recreation within exercise program for participants.
- Responsible for planning and maintaining individual fitness routines.
- Set goals with participants and assess progress.
- Take initiative to learn about new equipment and current best practices.
- Performs data entry for program management.
- Leads volunteers
- Teaches (small classes)
- Creates displays
- Adapt course material to participant ability level
- Accountable for participants during programs
- Provide assistance transitioning participants
- Does word processing
- Program preparation and set-up; explains program requirements.
- Operates specialized equipment.
- Applies Basic first aid when necessary
- Assists with set up, maintenance, and/or operation of data management processes.
- Works in more than one assignment in the Recreation Division.
- Graduation from an accredited adaptive recreation program OR Equivalent education/experience (i.e. working with disability population, fitness background, adaptive recreation experience).
- Prior experience working with older adults, and adults with physical disabilities.
Definition of a Variable Employee:
- Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire.
- Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less.
- NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).
