The North Bellevue Community Center is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Recreation Center Coordinator to lead and instruct a variety of programs focused on older adults, intergenerational activities, special events, and day camps. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality recreational experiences and overseeing the work of other instructors, ensuring that all programs meet the needs of our diverse community. This individual must engage well with patrons of all ages and backgrounds, be detailed oriented and willing to work a schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
The Recreation Center Coordinator will be responsible for involvement in planning, implementation, and ongoing management of programs while supervising part-time, seasonal staff and volunteer to ensure the successful operation of these activities.
Work Schedule: This position is a 40-hour work week and requires availability on Tuesday through Saturday, with both day and evening hours to meet the diverse needs of the community.

- Lead, instruct, and oversee programs designed for older adults, intergenerational groups, special events, and day camps, ensuring they are engaging and meet community needs.
- Assist in the daily program transitions to ensure seamless activities between facility users.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate part-time, seasonal, and variable staff members, providing guidance to ensure high standards of service and safety.
- Develop, market and implement programs including plans, schedules, and activities while managing resources to maintain a positive participant experience.
- Ensure the smooth operation and delivery of recreational programs, from registration to final wrap-up, while maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Foster community engagement through collaboration with other departments, community organizations, and local groups to promote the center's offerings.
- Foster specific older adult activity at City of Bellevue recreation sites beyond North Bellevue Community Center.
- Ensure the North Bellevue Community Center is open for community activity on Saturdays, to include recreational programs and facility rentals.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- Works under the general supervision of a Community Services Supervisor.
- Supervises daily classes and acts as lead to contracted instructors.
- Exercises supervision over part-time, seasonal, and variable staff and volunteers, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning, and administration.
- Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.
- Ability to lead, develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program.
- Ability and willingness to operate a large 15 passenger van in city and on freeways is required.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Knowledgeable in social media and other marketing strategies.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.
- Ability to learn and effectively use the registration system for advertising, inputting plans, reporting, collecting funds, and collecting program data.
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in recreation or other related human service fields.
- Two or more years of professional related experience in recreation, instruction/coaching/training, customer service, and supervision.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- CPR/FPR and First Aid certification required.
- Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and the ability and willingness to operate a 15-passenger van. Special endorsement is not required.
