What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Intern position at City of Beloit?
The City of Beloit has an exciting summer internship opportunity for qualified college students as an Engineering Intern with the Department of Public Works. This position, under close supervision and mentorship from professional staff, is responsible for administrative and sub-professional engineering work in assisting an engineering program related to the design and construction of public works facilities. The Engineering Intern is involved with the administrative and technical operation of the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department, including planning and assisting in the design and construction of streets, storm and sanitary sewers, water facilities, parks, public buildings and other similar projects. Other duties may be assigned.
May through August ( 35-40 hours/week) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
2. A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position.
3. AutoCAD experience is preferred.
4. GIS experience is preferred.
5. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
Must be creative, enthusiastic, highly organized, motivated, dependable, patient and able to maintain discipline. Must be capable of following directions and have an ability to learn new skills. Basic computer skills required. Must possess good verbal, written, and listening communication skills, the ability to complete daily paperwork and work well with others from different cultures and backgrounds.
