GENERAL PURPOSE:  

The Aquatic Manager will manage the operations and programs of the Indoor Aquatic facility at the High Blue and Memorial Park Outdoor Water Park. She/he is responsible for supervising water safety instructors, lifeguards, water aerobics instructors, and others assigned by the Assistant Director.  

 

Incumbent must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the mission and goals of the Belton Parks & Recreation Department while carrying out their assigned responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises daily pool operations, aquatics programs, after-hours parties and recreational swims at the High Blue Indoor Pool and the Outdoor Memorial Water Park.  
  • Provides leadership and direction in the development of high standards and performance by employees. 
  • Ensures the Head Guard assigns aquatic staff to duties as established by their job descriptions. 
  • Supervises hiring, scheduling, training, motivating, and evaluating staff.  
  • Must instruct staff by way of in-service training for specific duties.  
  • Maintain certification records of all lifeguards and water safety instructors. 
  • Shall work with other department staff as a team player utilizing verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Manages admissions staff, scheduling, and maintenance of the Outdoor Memorial Park Water Park. 
  • Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.  
  • Schedules and Instructs swimming lessons as needed. 
  • Monitors pool equipment condition and ensures repairs are made as needed. 
  • Attend staff meetings and training courses as required. 
  • Maintains manuals and training documents. 
  • Ensures attendance records, program reports and other required administrative procedures are completed. 
  • Maintains a high level of Customer Relations by making sure customers receive prompt and courteous attention from all employees. 
  • Manages the safety and sanitation of the pool area during assigned times.  
  • Oversees pool chemistry readings and takes appropriate measures to keep the pool water balanced. 
  • Monitors member and guest activity within the aquatic environment to insure a safe aquatic environment at all times. 
  • Assist the Assistant Director in marketing and promotions of all Aquatic Programming.  
  • Enforces facility policies and procedures consistently for staff and patrons.  
  • Handle customer service inquiries and related problems. 
  • Be completely knowledgeable of all Belton Parks & Recreation programs and services to answer questions and/or channel calls to the proper administrative and support staff. 
  • Research current trends and practices and recommends Aquatic customer service training techniques and organizational modifications. 
  • Communicate client program progress and/or problems with the Assistant Director.  
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as needed when required. 
  • Maintain a professional image in the Belton community. 
  • Complete Customer Service skills training. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. 
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. 
  • Ability to exhibit a positive approach in public contact and a calm nature in problem solving situations. 
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree in sports or recreation related field, plus a minimum of one (1) years' experience in aquatic industry, OR minimum of three (3) years' experience in the aquatic industry in lieu of degree. 
  • Prefer: Life Saving Certification, prefer American Red Cross 
  • Pool Operators license from national or local agency required. 
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification 
  • First Aid and CPR Certification 
  • Knowledge and comprehension of community recreation and programs. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. (This amount could be more if performing personal training, lifting a body from the water, and the person would be required to ask for assistance if needed). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Subject to working some weekend, early morning and evening hours. 
  • Must maintain a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include working closely with others, high levels of public contact, and irregular working hours.
