GENERAL PURPOSE :
Under general supervision, directs and administers all functions and operations of the City's information technology systems including network components and identifies, troubleshoots and resolves problems encountered by City-wide users of various servers and desktop systems, City network and other computer technology; troubleshoot and solve local-area network problems; provide technical support to end-users regarding optimal set-up for software, hardware and network use; install, configure and troubleshoot a wide range of network and data communications software and hardware; train users in various software applications and network-related procedures; and perform related work as required.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software and network related problems encountered by city employees, the Internet, PCs and new computer technology.
- Configures and installs Windows workstations in response to the demands of a high-speed network and cloud environment.
- Trains end-users on the use and features of the various operating systems and applications on the various platforms.
- Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of the health of workstations.
- Installs and troubleshoots city and remote-site network infrastructure, including a wide variety of local area network equipment and software.
- Tracks and logs requests; monitors progress, tracks problem resolution, identifies patterns of failure, research bug fixes and implements solutions; communicates with IT Director regarding unsolved problems.
- Maintains documentation of existing network architecture.
- Works with vendors to resolve hardware operating system issues; research and tests possible solutions and implements solutions. Analyzes bugs in system and application software; research and tests possible solutions; implements solutions.
- Performs inventory of personal computer hardware and software for the city; and arranges for disposal of unneeded or obsolete equipment.
- Optimizes computer usage by researching and recommending enhancements to system capabilities and performance.
- Maintains working knowledge of all current developments in the local area networking, personal and laptop computing and communicating industries.
- Enforces the City's network security and installation procedures.
- Ensures that job duties are completed in strict adherence to established safe work practices.
