What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Downtown Maintenance position at City of Bemidji?
Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance and beautification of the downtown area.

- Works under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent.

- Maintains grass, trees, shrubs and other vegetation in downtown parking lots and City-owned property including mowing, seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning and watering.
- Assists with the routine maintenance practices in the landscape beds at the Library, Historic Depot and downtown planters to include weeding, deadheading and watering.
- Assist with tree trimming and removal of trees in the downtown.
- Pick up litter including broken glass, sweep sidewalks and general cleaning of downtown area.
- Weed downtown area using motorized and manually operated equipment.
- Assists in the operation and maintenance of irrigation.
- Services and maintains equipment.
- Performs other Parks & Recreation and/or Public Works Department related duties as required or assigned.
- Education & Experience
- This position requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Coursework in horticulture, landscaping, urban forestry, park management, natural resources management, or a closely related field, or a combination of equivalent knowledge gained through work experience.
- Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to operate a variety of mechanical and power tools and equipment.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees, volunteer groups, tourist, and downtown business owners.
- Must be able to work independently and complete assigned duties in a productive and efficient manner.
- Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid State driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
- Tools & Equipment Used
- Pickup truck, lawn and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, edgers, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers and irrigation systems, miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work.
