Recruitment Timeline:
Group Interviews: April 23rd and April 24th
New Hire Orientation: May 15th@ 4:00 P.M.
Mandatory Staff Training: June 9th - June 12th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
First Day of Summer: June 9th
The James Lemos Swim Center is open 7 Days a Week
Shifts are available during the following hours:
Monday - Friday 6:30 AM - 8:30 PM and
Saturday/Sunday 8:00 AM - 5:30 PMEducation
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Must maintain the following current certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED for Lifeguards. Also the Administering Emergency Oxygen certification is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in some phase of aquatics operations desirable.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of pool rules, policies, and procedures.
- Skilled in swimming, rescue work, resuscitation and first aid.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
The Lifeguard works under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, Coordinators, and Senior Guards, and his/her responsibilities and duties shall be as follows:
- Ensures patron safety by maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; clearly and professionally conveying and enforcing rules to patrons.
- Provides lesson instruction in the Learn to Swim Program.
- Attends and participates in all in-service training.
- Enforces and adheres to all rules and regulations of the pool.
- Promotes a spirit of friendliness and cooperation with co-workers and strives to develop a good rapport with those who live in the local community. Is courteous, tactful, and polite to the public at all times.
- Provides first aid, emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Assists with cleaning and routine maintenance of the aquatic facility, including office, guardroom, bathrooms, deck, pools or other areas as assigned.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator, Aquatic Coordinators and Senior Guards.
- Each lifeguard will be called upon to teach Learn To Swim Levels I-III and Parent / Tot.
