Supervised by: Public Works Supervisor and/or designee.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the close supervision of a higher classified employee, performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to maintenance, construction, repair tasks under the Water and Wastewater Divisions, Storm Sewer Divisions and Public Works cemetery upkeep, and lawn maintenance of city-owned parcels. These duties often require physical strength and effort and relatively low level of equipment to perform required work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled construction, repair and maintenance tasks as part of a work crew, applying asphalt patches, pouring cement for curbs, gutters and sidewalks, and making general repair related to water or sewer excavation.
- As part of a crew, assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the utility system.
- Assist in locating hidden and broken underground system problem.
- Assists in the maintenance, repair, and construction of manholes, valves, and related appurtenances.
- Sets up signs and traffic warning devices on construction of manholes, hydrants, valves, and related appurtenances.
- Acts as flagged when other employee is working in streets.
- Comply with all OSHA Safety Rule for confined space entry, MDOT Rules for working in streets, and City of Benton Harbor General Safety practices.
- Performs all landscape maintenance duties such as weed-whacking, lawn mowing, etc.
- Maintains equipment.
- All functions related to funeral services.
- Operates machinery appropriately in a safe manner.
- Installs or assists in installing cemetery vaults.
- Installs headstones or memorials as needed.
- Handles the day-to-day general maintenance duties.
- Handles snow removal (if applicable).
- Ability to lift up to 80lbs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and some experience in heavy labor is preferred.
License/Certifications: Possession of a valid driver’s license.
