OB SUMMARY Assists in planning construction and coordinating operations of facilities for transmitting power from distribution points to consumers under direct supervision of the Electric Construction Manager. Assists in preparing specifications and instructions for installation of overhead or underground cables, and related electrical equipment used to conduct electrical energy from transmission lines or high voltage distribution lines to consumers by performing the following duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.


Is responsible for calling in all locates to Arkansas One Call before the electric department does any excavation at a construction site. This individual needs to maintain good communications with other utilities who have buried lines in our construction sites to help prevent dig ins.


Visits site of proposed installation and draws rough sketch of location with the assistance of engineering technician or Electric Construction Manager.


Assists engineering technician in obtaining measurements such as street dimensions, distances to be spanned by wire and cable, or space available in existing buildings and underground vaults which affect installation and arrangement of equipment.


Assists in creating sketch showing relation of proposed installation to existing facilities. Drafts sketches to scale.


Assists in investigating low voltage complaints by visiting area with service crew and/or engineering technician and determining if excessive load or power leakage causes defect.


Uses Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) to perform engineering tasks as required.


Assists in using the Global Positioning System (GPS) to stake any pole or collect existing information in the field.

Becomes familiar with the distribution handbook and overhead/underground specifications.


Assists with communication with all franchise utility attachers of work progress and timelines.


Before being eligible for promotion to New Service coordinator II, a candidate must spend at least 1 year working as a New Service Coordinator I for the City or have a minimum of 4 years experience in the electric utility field.


Familiarity with GPS equipment. Ability to GPS any pole and enter information into Global Information System (GIS).


Demonstrates ability to perform walkthroughs and final inspections on new residential and commercial subdivisions with minimal supervision.


Ability to work with contractors to answer construction questions.


Familiarity with overhead pole design and construction.


Assists with field staking of overhead power lines and street lights.


Assists with staking sheets and associated unit takeoffs for inventory.


Demonstrates knowledge of our specification book and underground construction specifications.


It is the discretion of management to waive any promotion requirement(s) that are deemed unnecessary based on the individual’s specific skill set.


The employee’s anniversary date will be changed according to any promotion of grade.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Two (2) to four (4) years related experience and/or training in the electric utility industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
