Summary: The Lead Camp Counselor will oversee the day-to-day operations of the camp,
ensuring a safe, organized, and engaging experience for all campers. This position requires
strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and a passion for recreation and youth
development. The Lead Counselor will help with camp rosters, camper check-ins, conflict
resolution, inventory management, and will collaborate with the camp team to support the
smooth operation of camp activities. Additionally, the Lead Counselor will assist in managing
camp cancellations and rescheduling, ensuring that all aspects of camp run efficiently and in
alignment with the mission to enrich lives through recreation and culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Camp Rosters & Camper Check-In:
• Manage and maintain accurate camp rosters, ensuring all camper information is up to
date.
• Oversee camper check-in and check-out processes, ensuring smooth transitions for both
campers and parents.
• Coordinate with camp administration to ensure all necessary documentation (waivers,
medical forms, etc.) are collected and processed.
Camp Preparation:
• Assist in preparing camp schedules, activities, and materials prior to the start of each
session.
• Ensure that all camp locations are organized, safe, and well-equipped with the necessary
supplies.
• Collaborate with fellow counselors to create a fun, inclusive, and educational experience
that reflects the camp's mission.
Conflict Resolution:
• Act as a primary point of contact for addressing camper and parent concerns, working to
resolve any conflicts that may arise in a positive and constructive manner.
• Ensure that all campers feel safe, respected, and heard during their camp experience.
• Foster an environment of open communication with campers, parents, and camp staff.
Inventory & Supplies Management:
• Conduct regular inventory checks of camp supplies, including arts and crafts materials,
sports equipment, and other necessary resources.
• Assist in ordering and replenishing supplies as needed, ensuring that the camp is always
well-stocked and prepared for activities.
Camp Cancellations & Rescheduling:
• Assist in handling camp cancellations and rescheduling requests from parents or
guardians.
• Ensure that all communication related to cancellations or changes is handled in a timely
and professional manner.
• Work with camp administration to ensure that these changes are reflected accurately in
camp rosters and scheduling.
Leadership & Staff Support:
• Model the camp’s values and mission through leadership, communication, and behavior.
• Lead by example in providing excellent customer service to campers and parents,
ensuring a high-quality experience.
Qualifications
• Previous experience working as a camp counselor, ideally in a leadership role (1-2 years
preferred).
• Strong understanding of recreation, leisure activities, and cultural programming.
• Ability to handle conflict in a calm and professional manner.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• Passion for youth development, recreation, and enriching the lives of others.
• A positive attitude and the ability to foster a fun and inclusive camp environment.
Education and/or Experience High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and
one (1) year of college-level work, or completion of a clerical support educational program,
Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence,
and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information
in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the
organization. English/Spanish bilingual oral communication skill preferred.
Reasoning Ability The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but
uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete
variables in standardized situations.
