The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Applications Programmer Analyst II in the Information Technology Department! This position offers the opportunity for broad exposure to the City of Berkeley's technology systems, including enterprise and business-level applications, business intelligence and reporting systems, as well as data warehousing and GIS solutions—all critical to the efficient functioning of City of Berkeley operations. In this role, you will act as a technical liaison between IT and various City departments, including Public Safety, among others, translating business requirements into technological solutions.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, mathematics, business administration, or a closely related field and two (2) years of professional experience in systems design and analysis, systems integration, and/or programming of applications for computer systems. Experience in systems design and analysis, systems integration, and/or programming of applications for computer systems may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

In addition to the qualifications mentioned above, the ideal candidate will have a combination of technical and business acumen to navigate the wide array of projects and issues and resolve them.Applications must be received by 5:00 PM Pacific on April 28, 2025and must include a completed application and answers to the supplemental questions. The exam process will include, but may not be limited to:

The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
