The City of Berkeley, California, is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking Human Resources (HR) Director to lead the overall functions of the Human Resources Department and act as the chief negotiator for labor relations. This Director will be a key member of the City's highly collaborative executive leadership team, and act as a strategic partner across departments while overseeing an FY 2025 budget in excess of $6 million and a dedicated team of 26 staff. The ideal candidate will possess well-rounded expertise in HR functions, including recruitment, as well as a deep understanding of public sector labor relations, with a proven ability to navigate complex negotiations and labor agreements. As a strong communicator with a customer-focused approach, the HR Director will play a critical role in advancing key citywide initiatives, promoting organizational goals, and ensuring effective HR strategies are implemented across departments. This position will receive a 4% COLA salary increase in July 2025 plus an additional 4.5% in COLA adjustments during FY 2026-2027 (2.5% in July 2026 and 2.0% in January 2027).
