- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- Valid California Paramedic License, National Registry Paramedic Certification Card, or be actively participating in a Paramedic Field Internship Program.
- Valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
- Current American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS/ITLS cards (or equivalents as determined by the Fire Chief)
- Proof of vaccination to include: TDaP, TB, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella (Chicken Pox), and Influenza. Titers demonstrating immunity may be substituted for the proof of vaccination.
- Valid California Paramedic license.
- Core courses required to be an Alameda County accredited Paramedic.
- California Ambulance Certificate (AMB), issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
- Successful completion of background investigation including Live Scan fingerprinting.
- Successful completion of physical ability exam according to the specifications of the fire department.
- Must be able to travel within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill job responsibilities
- Must maintain a valid California Class C or higher driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record
- Must be willing to maintain facial hair in such a manner as to ensure proper fitting and operation of Cal-OSHA compliant N95 and P100 particulate respirators
- Must be willing to work shifts as structured in the Fire Department
- Must successfully complete on-going assessment of health and wellness as required by the City

Supplemental attachments must include:
- Valid California Paramedic License or proof of active participation in a Paramedic Field Internship Program that must be fully completed by June 2025
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Valid American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certifications including:
- BLS (CPR and AED)
- ACLS
- PALS
- Valid International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) / Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification (or equivalents as determined by the Fire Chief)
- Proof of vaccinations must include:
- TDaP
- TB - within the last two years
- MMR
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella (Chicken Pox)
- Current Influenza/Flu Shot

- Application review for minimum qualifications and all required documents
- Physical Agility Test - Tentatively between March 3, 2025 to March 14, 2025
- EMS Skills Exam and Selection Interviews* - Tentatively between March 17, 2025 to March 26, 2025
*Candidates that are successful in the EMS Skills Exams will be placed on the eligible list for this classification. Only candidates that pass the exam will move onto selection/hiring interviews that are conducted on the same day as the EMS Skills Exam. A limited number of candidates will be given a conditional offer to move forward in the hiring process.
Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification.
