The Berkeley Police Department invites you to apply for the position of Police Aide! In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn and perform paraprofessional police service duties. You will assist and observe Police Officers and non-sworn police personnel.
This position is for college students who are interested in exploring a career in law enforcement. It provides part-time work experience and related training in various divisions of the Berkeley Police Department. All Police Aides must maintain satisfactory academic standing (C average or better) at an accredited college during employment. A maximum of 19 hours per week will be scheduled around an academic program. Employment as a Police Aide is limited to a maximum of four (4) years.

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school, current enrollment and in good academic standing at a college or university with a minimum of 6 units at the time of appointment. Previous volunteer or paid experience with public contact is desirable.
Other requirements include:
- Must be eighteen years old
- Must possess satisfactory hearing capabilities and visual acuity of at least 20/100 correctable to at least 20/30 in each eye
- Must be able to meet physical and background standards
- Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
