The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Revenue Development Supervisor in the Finance Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to help ensure the success of the City's revenue development programs and assume an active leadership role in the Treasury, Customer Service and Revenue Development Division. You'll supervise a team of six Revenue Development Specialists to perform revenue audits and tax compliance reviews of businesses operating in the City.
Specific responsibilities include coordinating and conducting internal and external audits of financial records for fees, taxes, and other revenue sources; performing a wide variety of revenue audits to identify and collect for non-payment and underpayment of taxes and revenues; and identifying unlicensed businesses and correcting sales tax misallocations and City Transfer Tax revenue discrepancies. The City's unique and innovative tax ordinances, like the first sugar-sweetened beverage tax in the US, help fund a variety of programs and services that enrich the Berkeley community.
The Finance Department promotes continuing education by enabling staff to attend conferences and classes pertinent to the job assignments. A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, or closely related field, and three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional auditing experience, preferably in a government setting. Two years conducting public sector revenue audits in a government setting is desirable.
Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver’s license as well as a satisfactory driving record.
