What are the responsibilities and job description for the SEASONAL/PARKS MAINTENANCE LABORER position at CITY OF BETTENDORF?
Under general supervision, repairs and maintains City parks and open spaces, trails, recreational facilities, public parking lots and park equipment; and performs related work as required.
Examples of Duties Performed:
Duties may include but are not limited to the following)
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs City property and facilities, including picking up trash and maintaining trash receptacles, cleaning and restocking restrooms, and removing graffiti as necessary.
- Maintains parks appearance, open spaces, municipal building grounds, and athletic fields by mowing, trimming, edging, spraying, seeding, or sodding.
- Assists with tree cutting, pruning, and removal as necessary.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of interior and exterior of park structures, including painting and making minor repairs as necessary.
- Assists with pesticide application to turf and beds to minimize growth of noxious weeds under the guidance and direction of a certified applicator.
- Operates, maintains, and cleans City equipment, i.e., trucks, light equipment, hand tools; performs minor repair and preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles assigned.
- Requires the ability to operate equipment and vehicles in such a manner as to prevent injury to self, coworkers, property, and equipment. This includes parameters for mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) to perform all job-related duties.
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Keeps immediate supervisor informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
- Reports any problems witnessed in the parks to their supervisor.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
