The Police Department is looking for a facility custodian who will be responsible for maintaining and/or repairing the physical facility and related infrastructure and equipment. Depending on the specific task, the person in this position would perform the task or coordinate its completion with an outside service or vendor.
There is a pre-defined schedule of 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, but that may vary if there are unexpected facility or equipment failures, or weather conditions require attention.
Responsibilities
- Report to the Support Services Division Commander (SSDC); expected to function independently day-to-day but must keep the SSDC informed of non-routine issues and needs for budgeting and planning purposes;
- Recommend capital expenditures related to the building and its infrastructure;
- Monitor the boiler, HVAC, and generator on a daily basis to ensure they are operating properly; coordinate the related service contracts and any necessary maintenance;
- Establish and perform a daily/weekly/monthly facility cleaning schedule;
- Coordinate with the Executive Assistant to procure supplies and materials as needed (this may include local travel);
- Responsible for snow removal (grounds and building);
- Perform building repairs and maintenance as needed (those that are non-licensed and not substantial in nature);
- Monitor, procure, and distribute supplies (gloves, bags, printer paper, etc.);
- Coordinate with Public Works regarding waste removal and recycling;
- Move any internal furniture, fixtures, or equipment (as needed);
- Coordinate with patrol sergeants/corporals during weather events for vehicles, snow removal, etc.;
- Performs weekly and monthly safety inspections, as needed by station/area;
- Assists IT manager during changes in equipment or related infrastructure; and
- Maintains a standard inventory of items for repairs.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in custodial maintenance;
- Strong problem-solving skills;
- Will function independently and seek assistance when needed;
- Able to make fast and appropriate decisions when critical infrastructure fails;
- Possess planning skills related to preventative maintenance;
- Valid State of Maine driver’s license;
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written directives;
- Maintain a satisfactory level of fitness (physical, mental and technical) to complete assigned tasks;
- Complies with departmental rules, regulations, policies and standards;
