The City of Biddeford’s Recreation Department has a great opportunity for a public facing position working with the busy summer traffic and patrons at Pool Beach. The person in this position will be friendly, able to work under pressure while maintaining composure with an overall professional approach to working with the public.
Responsibilities
- Conducts opening and closing procedures of the parking area
- Acts as a role model and maintains a positive attitude with all staff and beach patrons
- Ensures that the parking lot is safe for parking, closes the lot when full, and informs the public of changes in available parking
- Provides accurate information to the public regarding parking and beach regulations
- Maintains awareness of weather and ocean conditions to inform the public
- Oversees care and appropriate use of equipment pertinent to the job functions
- Provides support as needed to lifeguards in emergencies and, as necessary, acts in emergencies to rescue and render appropriate first aid
- Ensures a proper rotation of guards daily
- Cleans and maintains the parking area and bathrooms during hours of operation
- Remains alert to detect potentially hazardous conditions and patrons in distress
- Maintains the general appearance and cleanliness of the parking area
- Courteously answers questions from beach patrons when possible, without being distracted from lifeguard duties
- The employee must be able to move equipment such as chairs, tables, informational signs and boards.
Required Qualifications
- Knows the policies, rules, and regulations related to the beach and water
- Ability to give and receive directions effectively
- Works well with other employees, as well as the public, and is reliable
- Enforces parking rules and regulations, and exercises good judgment in enforcing them firmly and tactfully
- Reacts swiftly and calmly
- Ability to remain alert for long periods
- Weekend & holiday work required
- Willing to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford's work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
