The Assistant Camp Director will join the Recreation Department to assist the Camp Director and Coordinator of Camps and Enrichment Programs with the day-to-day operation of the summer camp program, including activity and trip planning, curriculum implementation, and supervision.
Responsibilities
- Serve the campers and staff as a positive role model, building healthy and respectful relationships with all
- Ensure appropriate weekly activity plans and schedules have been designed and approved
- Provide supply request forms to the Camp Director
- Oversee daily operations in the absence of the Director
- Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child
- Support camper behavioral issues
- Maintain cleanliness of all utilized facilities to ensure a safe and healthy environment
- Sustain open communication while communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders, including children, parents, staff, and supervisors
- Comply with all mandated reporting requirements
- Maintain confidentiality and effectively operate in an environment which involves sensitive situations with participants, families, staff, and the general public
- Assist with the maintenance of records such as camper and staff attendance, schedules and time sheets, and written reports
- Perform duties in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, offices, classrooms, indoor gymnasiums, outdoor fields, waterfronts, and field trips to different locations
- Regular attendance on scheduled workdays is required
- Attend scheduled pre-camp and in-service staff meetings and trainings
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Knowledge and/or familiarity with:
o Basic principles and practices of community recreation
o Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment
o Principles and procedure of confidential record keeping
o Effective customer service practices
o A variety of games, sports, activities, riddles, songs, and arts & crafts that children will enjoy
o Positive behavior management techniques
o Water safety
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow and provide directions to complete assigned tasks
- Flexible and a team player
- A willingness to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford's work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an after school, camp, recreation, or school setting
- Supervision of and guidance to members of staff
- Work with children ages 4-14
- Experience scheduling and planning activities for children
- Has addressed behavioral issues with children, parents and staff
- CPR/ First Aid certified
