- Screens and weighs commercial and residential waste.
- Answers the telephone, provides information to callers, takes messages for staff, and accepts work order requests for Sanitation routes.
- Greets the public and directs visitors to the appropriate person, office, or disposal area.
- Establishes bills, receives and records payments, and maintains records of commercial and residential accounts.
- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to include Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Quarterly reports, compost reports, daily landfill reports, fuel reports, cash reports, and budget analysis reports.
- Prepares the department payroll.
- Types all correspondence, memoranda, and reports for the department.
- Completes purchase orders for department.
- Schedules monthly safety meetings for department; serves as department safety officer.
- Maintains calendar for Sanitation and Landfill Manager; makes travel reservations as required.
- Completes employee incident reports for injured personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of a valid Texas State driver’s license.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Waste Screening License issued by the State of Texas.
- Credit checks will be conducted on all applicants under final consideration for this position.
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of the operations of the department.
- Knowledge of basic accounting.
- Skill in the use of a weigh scale, telephone, computer, copier, facsimile machine, and two-way radio.
- Skill in bookkeeping.
- Skill in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on building and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to different working styles and maintain positive working relationships.
