This position is responsible for performing a minor maintenance, minor construction, custodial duties and/or grounds keeping tasks in and around City parks grounds and recreational facilities.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the one year of experience related to grounds keeping or other general labor services. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a state-certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License.

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance methods and practices.Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations.Knowledge of basic carpentry, mechanical repair, and electrical procedures.Knowledge of various cleaning chemicals.Skill in operating specialized cleaning equipment (e.g., buffer, carpet shampoo machine, vacuum cleaner, swimming pool cleaning equipment, etc.) and various hand tools.Skill in operating power tools such as riding and push lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers and chain saws. Skill in operating hand tools such as shovels, picks, rakes, tree trimmers, etc.Skill in pesticide application.Skill in oral and written communication.SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe Parks Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.GUIDELINESGuidelines include departmental and safety policies and procedures, standard maintenance practices, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.COMPLEXITYThe work consists of related duties in cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds. The variety of duties contributes to the complexity of the work.SCOPE AND EFFECTThe purpose of this position is to perform basic maintenance and custodial duties.
