As a Code Inspector, you will be on the front lines, conducting inspections and investigations to ensure that buildings and structures comply with New York State Code and local regulations. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections of properties, including residential and commercial buildings, to ensure compliance with safety standards, zoning laws, and local regulations.
- Identify potential violations related to fire safety, electrical systems, heating, plumbing, structural integrity, and more.
- Write detailed reports on violations and oversee corrective actions to bring properties into compliance.
- Respond to complaints, investigate violations, and issue appearance tickets for legal hearings.
- Collaborate with other building and code enforcement professionals to ensure community safety.
- Help ensure the proper enforcement of fire safety, heating, electrical, and other critical systems to keep properties safe.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong understanding of New York State building codes, safety regulations, and municipal laws.
- An eye for detail and the ability to document violations clearly and accurately.
- Comfortable interacting with property owners, contractors, and the public while maintaining professionalism and courtesy.
- A willingness to learn and grow in the field, with the goal of obtaining New York Department of State Code Enforcement certification within one year of employment.
- Physical fitness to perform inspections and fieldwork in various environments.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction technology, architecture, urban planning, or a related field.
- Option 2: Associate degree in a related field and two years of relevant work or military experience.
- Option 3: High school diploma or equivalent, with at least four years of relevant experience or military service.
- Residency in Broome County must be established and maintained for the entire duration of the time holding this position.
