Job Description
This position is responsible for participating in the mechanical repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.
Fleet Technician I
Hiring Salary Range: $55,520 to $64,500.

- Recent graduate of a related collegiate trade school in automotive technology or diesel technology
- Experience preferred, not required.
Fleet Technician II
Hiring Salary Range: $58,331 to $71,000

Requirements:
- Current ASE Master Technician Certification in Automotive and/or Truck categories
- Emergency Vehicle Certified Technician, Law Enforcement and/or Fire Apparatus backgrounds
- Minimum 2 years work experience required.
- Class B with air brake endorsement or more. Preferred, not required.
Examples of Duties
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions in a variety of vehicles, equipment and trucks.
- Performs corrective service & repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, including diesel engines and fuel & emission systems.
- Repairs brake, HVAC, transmission, electrical, steering, exhaust, instrumentation, and other system repairs.
- Perform service & repair on public safety equipment to include law enforcement & fire apparatus.
- Performs field repairs as needed.
- Repairs or replaces tires.
- Replace glass and windshields. Perform minor body repairs.
- Fabricates a variety of equipment parts; makes welding repairs.
- Acquires parts and equipment needed for the successful repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Performs vehicle and equipment safety inspections.
- Operates computer systems to retrieve and enter data.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Completes required reports and maintains vehicle and equipment maintenance records.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of oils and lubricants needed for different makes of equipment.
