What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cultural Center Janitor & Event Attendant 2025-02 position at City of Bloomfield?
Position will work Monday through Thursday and Saturday from approximately 11:30 AM until 8:00 PM; If there are no events on Saturday, position will work Monday through Friday. Events rentals, which are typically on Saturdays, will work until 9:00 PM.
JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL PURPOSE: Works under the general supervision of the Library/Cultural Center Director performing a variety of entry-level routine duties to assure proper cleaning of the Cultural Center, including its Fitness Center, Gymnasium and other common areas and to assist in cultural center rentals and programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs general custodial duties as needed to maintain cultural /fitness center facilities; including: changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, steam cleaning, striping, waxing, polishing, and buffing floors, carpets, and furniture, etc.; dumps trash cans and garbage and reline cans with liners; cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc; washes windows, walls, metal and woodwork, and sanitizes areas frequented by patrons.
Picks up litter from around buildings and grounds. Maintain high degree of public contact. Performs minor maintenance on equipment. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
Performs general facility security checks during evenings and weekends or other days as assigned; checks door locks and other systems for proper operation; opens and closes doors, allowing access to facilities.
Manage special events, including yoga and basketball night and performs general security functions; sets alarm system.
Performs related duties as required.
1. QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.
Ability to work and adapt to a rotating shift that includes nights, weekends, and holiday hours.
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Knowledge of building maintenance including housekeeping and janitorial procedures and ability to operate the related equipment. Knowledge of janitorial products and application procedures to ensure public safety.
Ability to make minor repairs to facilities, including plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.
Ability to work in stressful situations with members of the public, as well as other City employees.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.
Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
Extensive background checks required.
This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.
2. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skill in monitoring activities and enforcing safety rules to maintain a safe facility; maintaining records and preparing reports the use of office equipment, i.e., personal computer, phone, fax, cash register, adding machine, etc.; various hand tools used in the maintenance of recreation equipment; common hand tools. Some skill in the art of cooperative problem solving; basic math skills; English and grammar skills. Ability to operate personal computer in utilizing various programs to produce or compose formal documents, reports and records; keep operating records and prepare reports; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; develop effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public; train staff; exercise initiative, independent judgment and to act resourcefully under varying conditions.
3. Special Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age.
4. Work Environment: Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity must exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.
