Temporary/Full-time Employment (16 to 26 weeks. Staring, April 15, 2025)
Pays $17.50/hr.
Grant Age Requirement: 18 to 25 years of age.
Days/hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM (off Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays)
GENERAL PURPOSE
Works under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent, Parks Foreman, and Parks Worker I, performing a variety of working level skilled duties related to the YCC Wetland Conservation project, building trails, picnic shelters and benches, clearing brush, concrete work and erosion control.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Provides close to general supervision to 4 YCC seasonal laborers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Might serve as a project leader, performs general building maintenance; constructs and maintains bowery, small buildings, and storage facilities; assures proper operation of lighting fixtures, doors, windows, and plumbing; might assist in framing, painting, roofing or other skilled construction and maintenance activities related to carpentry, plumbing, and electrical; performs concrete and masonry work.
Operates various types of heavy equipment such as front-end loader, back hoe, utility trailers, bob tail dump truck, etc.; transports materials and equipment; operates and maintains trencher; operates a variety of types of small and light equipment such as mowers, sod cutters, chain saws, pruning equipment, aeration tractor, and various hand tools; performs routine and regular maintenance on equipment to assure efficiency and safety; welds as needed to fabricate parts and make repairs.
Operates complex lawn mowing equipment; mows and trims grass, bushes, and shrubs; assists in pruning activities on trees, shrubs and plants; removes dead, diseased, or injured trees; stimulates healthy plant growth through custom pruning and cutting.
Trains YCC laborers in equipment usage such as small hand tools such as chains saws and pruners; installations of pavers, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED; And two (2) years' experience performing above or related duties; YCC Supervisor Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ages 18 to 25
- Must be a New Mexico Resident
- Currently Unemployed
- Willing to work in cooperation with YCC Project Sponsor, other Crew Leader, and other Corps members in order to complete the goals and tasks established for the YCC program;
- Ability to use tools properly and safely,
- Ability to maintain good working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, City officials, and the public.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of maintenance equipment such as backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, mowers, tractors, trimmers, etc.; knowledge of hazards and related safety precautions associated with equipment operations. Some skill level in the operation of various types of light equipment such as gang mower, front end loader, tractor, backhoe, etc., basic carpentry, and masonry. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisor, subordinates, and the public.
Work Environment: Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to the performance of the position. Daily exposure to weather extremes and seasonal conditions is normal. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity exists. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, and discriminating thinking. Frequent local travel is in the normal course of job performance.
