Description
Maintains a healthy environment for shelter animals through careful disinfection techniques and observing proper animal handling to treat, prevent and/or contain infectious diseases. Performs daily cleaning and disinfection of common areas following prescribed shelter protocols. Ensure all animals are provided with adequate food, water, bedding and toys. Monitor animals for signs of ill health and disease. Notifies supervisor to receive directions on treatment and implementation of prescribed medical treatments. Exercises and socializes animals as directed and as time allows.

Disinfects and cleans kennels following shelter protocol
Disinfects and cleans common areas in the building
Ensures animals are provided with adequate food, water, bedding and toys
Completes laundry and dishes
Monitors animals for signs of ill health and disease
Exercises and socializes animals as directed and time allows
Job Requirements
Ability to properly and safely handle a variety of animals of different temperaments and in various conditions of health.
Knowledge of basic animal health care, animal behavior, and a commitment to animal welfare.
Difficulty of Work and Personal Work Relationship
Position requires the person to work on hard flooring for the duration of their shift. The person also needs to regularly lift 50lbs. This position will in addition work in varying temperatures.
This position works closely with Animal Care Technician and the Shelter Manager. Will also work with members of the public and needs the ability to communicate in a tactful, effective manner in situations of potential conflict.
